Probablement nascut com John Griffith Chaney (San Francisco, 12 de gener del 1876 – Glen Ellen, Califòrnia, 22 de novembre del 1916), va ser un escriptor estatunidenc, autor d’Ullal Blanc, The Call of the Wild (traduïda al català com La crida del bosc), i uns altres cinquanta llibres.
